History of the Showcase
Since its inception, The Limestone Coast Choral and Vocal Showcase has given opportunities for our youth to participate in the choral and vocal arena, to perform before an audience, and to receive encouragement and advice from accredited adjudicators.
Well known Adelaide tenor, Sir Thomas Edmonds, AM, OAM, BA., was appointed Adjudicator of the inaugural Showcase which saw over 90 performers take to the stage over 4 days singing a variety of music from the very modern to classical Art Songs and Arias and Choral Works. Sir Thomas was extremely supportive of all performers and very impressed with the event and encouraged all involved to continue with the concept of holding an annual event.
The interest in Showcase has continued to steadily grow. Each year performers ranging from novices to experienced singers and choirs travel from many parts of Australia to participate in the event. Over the years untold talent has been uncovered and generous prizes and scholarships have helped many young people make a career of singing, acting and dancing in both the national and international arena in Music Theatre and the classical stage.
The Choral and Vocal Showcase relies entirely on the support of Partners or Sponsors. Their continued support has enabled the Committee to invite highly qualified adjudicators to the event and to richly reward performers for their efforts. As with any event such as Showcase, there is always a mixture of great results and disappointments. With this in mind we always ask the adjudicators to be honest in their critique of performances at the same time to be encouraging and constructive with their comments.
A $1,000.00 Scholarship in memory of inaugural committee member, Mrs. Helen Schultz, has assisted many very talented young adults in their university studies. A Panel works in conjunction with the Adjudicators to select the recipient of the award based on a written application, interview and performance assessment. The money is to be used to further the skills, knowledge and performance ability of the recipient.
The Committee members work tirelessly to present a friendly environment for all participants and we have become noted for our hospitality, particularly to those who travel from as far away as Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and regional South Australia and Victoria. Many strong friendships have been formed through the course of the event.
Without our Patron, Sponsors, Adjudicators, Teachers, Accompanists, Music Advisors, Parents and of course the Performers, Showcase would not happen.
